It was then the biggest tent in Europe. A million pound rehearsal space for the aerial acrobats inside the Millennium Dome. Built on Three Mills Green at Bow, it dwarfed any circus 'big top' but then disaster struck... Somebody had forgotten to get planning permission and a lengthy wrangle ensued but it had to come down. Just another chapter in the sorry saga of the Dome.

A disturbed man barricaded himself inside his flat opposite a top London hotel and threw out the fourth-floor window all of his furniture. Police cordoned off the street and later took him into custody. Many cars parked below were damaged and several passers-by had lucky escapes. One victim of the subsequent chaos was the actor Brad Pitt who was delayed in leaving the hotel by the police action outside.

A call to what was a suicide on a motorway in North London was the first call-out for the London Air Ambulance Service's brand new MD Explorer helicopter. The enclosed tail rotor makes landing in urban areas much safer.
